in establishing a baseline, it is time to evaluate your surroundings.

one exercise

to understand and assess the spiritual climate of your place of residence, i present to you one simple exercise to perform.

all you have to do is get into your car and go for a drive on your nearest freeway or highway.

why?

real children of God are not allowed to speed.

---

no one truly filled with the Holy Spirit is allowed to violate traffic laws.

God does not allow it. sooner or later, a true child of God indwelt with the Holy Spirit will be told in one way or another that he/she can no longer speed.

“submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. for so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.” (1 peter 2:13-15)

case study #2

human performance ranking: the curious employee

scenario assessment: simple friendly conversation

location: an auto shop

year: 2021

“how much do you drift?”

was what the employee at the auto shop asked me as i was paying for my car state inspection service.

“none,” was my answer. “i don’t even speed anymore.”

for those of you who do not know what drifting is, it is basically controlled oversteering that looks cool in movies and probably real life. again, i no longer even speed and, well, all the bad boy male friends i used to have all live in california, so i do not see drifting in real life anymore either. i lost them too.

my point in sharing this particular case study is to stress that the problem is not one of us. it is actually all of us. all of us are broken. and all of us are ill. and i used to speed all the time just like pretty much everyone else.

it takes a lot of energy and focus to choose to be healthy and holy. and not many people submit to this lifestyle choice. it is a complete 180 degree turn.
